Primus Archbishop, The Metropolitan Old Catholic Church
The Most Reverend Shane R. F. Hughes serves as the Founding Primus Archbishop of The Metropolitan Old Catholic Church (TMOCC), providing spiritual leadership, pastoral oversight, and vision for the Church's mission and ministry.
As Primus Archbishop, Archbishop Hughes is entrusted with safeguarding the faith, fostering unity among clergy and laity, and guiding the development of an inclusive and welcoming Old Catholic community rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Catholic sacramental tradition, and the principles of pastoral compassion and justice. The title Primus signifies "first among equals," reflecting a ministry of servant leadership exercised in collaboration with fellow bishops and clergy.
Archbishop Hughes is committed to building a Church that embraces people from all walks of life, affirming the dignity and worth of every person. Under his leadership, The Metropolitan Old Catholic Church seeks to provide a spiritual home for those seeking a sacramental, inclusive, and mission-focused expression of Catholic Christianity.
In addition to his episcopal responsibilities, Archbishop Hughes is dedicated to promoting theological education, pastoral care, safeguarding excellence, and community outreach. He has also championed the development of new ministries and religious communities, including initiatives that encourage contemplative spirituality and Christian discipleship.
As Primus Archbishop, he presides over the governance of The Metropolitan Old Catholic Church, represents the Church in ecumenical and interfaith relationships, and works to strengthen the Church's witness throughout the United Kingdom and beyond.
Archbishop Hughes continues to encourage clergy and faithful alike to live lives marked by faith, hope, charity, and service, seeking always to proclaim the love of Christ in a changing world.
