Lay Ministry
Lay Ministry Process
1. Initial Enquiry
An individual expresses an interest in serving within a Lay Ministry role and contacts the Church for further information.
2. Application
The applicant completes the Lay Ministry Application Form and submits any required supporting documentation.
3. Discernment Conversation
The applicant meets with a clergy member or appointed representative to discuss their sense of calling, gifts, experience, and suitability for ministry.
4. Safeguarding and Background Checks
Where appropriate, safeguarding training and relevant background checks (including DBS checks where required) are completed.
5. Formation and Preparation
The applicant undertakes any necessary training, orientation, or formation programme relevant to the ministry role.
6. Assessment and Recommendation
Following the period of discernment and preparation, a recommendation is made to the appropriate church authority regarding appointment.
7. Appointment
Upon approval, the applicant is formally appointed to the Lay Ministry role and receives written confirmation of their ministry responsibilities.
8. Commissioning
The new Lay Minister may be commissioned during a church service, receiving the prayers and support of the Church community.
9. Ongoing Ministry and Development
Lay Ministers are expected to participate in continuing formation, uphold the values and policies of the Church, and engage faithfully in their ministry.

Lay Ministry appointments may be reviewed periodically to ensure the wellbeing of the minister and the effective fulfilment of the role.
